Caesar, seeing that the fighting was on unfavourable ground and that the enemy's forces were growing, was anxious for his men and sent to Titus Sextius, the lieutenant he had left to guard the smaller camp, telling him to lead the cohorts quickly out of the camp and post them at the foot of the hill on the enemy's right flank, so that, if he saw our men driven from their position, he might deter the enemy from pursuing too freely.
Note. quō minus … īnsequerentur: 'to keep them from pursuing'; quō minus (quōminus) with the subjunctive after a verb of hindering or frightening.
7.49.3Ipse paulum ex eō locō cum legiōne prōgressus, ubi cōnstiterat, ēventum pugnae exspectābat.
He himself advanced a little with his legion from the place where he had halted and awaited the outcome of the battle.
