6.44.1Tālī modō vāstātīs regiōnibus exercitum Caesar duārum cohortium damnō Durocortorum Rēmōrum redūcit conciliōque in eum locum Galliae indictō dē coniūrātiōne Senonum et Carnutum quaestiōnem habēre īnstituit et dē Accōne, quī prīnceps eius cōnsilī fuerat, graviōre sententiā prōnūntiātā mōre maiōrum supplicium sūmpsit.

After laying waste the regions in this way, Caesar brought the army back, with the loss of two cohorts, to Durocortorum of the Remi; and having called a council of Gaul to that place he decided to hold an inquiry into the conspiracy of the Senones and Carnutes; and on Acco, who had been the leader of that plan, a harsher sentence was pronounced, and he inflicted punishment in the ancestral way.

Note. mōre maiōrum supplicium sūmpsit: the old Roman way of execution was flogging followed by beheading.

6.44.3Nōn nūllī iūdicium veritī profūgērunt.

Some, fearing trial, fled.

When he had forbidden them fire and water, he placed two legions in winter quarters on the borders of the Treveri, two among the Lingones, and the remaining six at Agedincum in the land of the Senones; and having provided grain for the army, he set out, as he had planned, for Italy to hold the assizes.

Note. aquā atque ignī interdīxisset: a formula of banishment. Forbidding a man fire and water meant no one could give him shelter.
