2.1Iuppiter tamen haec omnia vīdit, et fīlium suum servāre cōnstituit.

Jupiter, however, saw all these things, and decided to save his son.

2.2Tranquillum igitur fēcit mare, et arcam ad īnsulam Serīphum perdūxit.

So he made the sea calm, and brought the chest to the island of Seriphos.

Note. Tranquillum fēcit mare: 'he made the sea calm'. Latin says 'the island Seriphos' where English says 'the island of Seriphos'.

2.3Huius īnsulae Polydectēs tum rēx erat.

Polydectes was king of this island at that time.

Note. Huius īnsulae: 'of this island'.

2.4Postquam arca ad lītus appulsa est, Danaē in harēnā quiētem capiēbat.

After the chest was driven to the shore, Danaë was resting on the sand.

2.5Post breve tempus ā piscātōre quōdam reperta est, et ad domum rēgis Polydectis adducta est.

After a short time she was found by a certain fisherman, and was brought to the house of King Polydectes.

Note. quōdam: 'a certain (fisherman)', someone not further described. ad domum: 'to the house'.

2.6Ille mātrem et puerum benignē excēpit, et iīs sēdem tūtam in fīnibus suīs dedit.

He received the mother and the boy kindly, and gave them a safe home in his territory.

Note. Ille: 'he'. Latin uses ille when the subject switches to someone just mentioned. iīs: 'to them'.

2.7Danaē hoc dōnum libenter accēpit, et prō tantō beneficiō rēgī grātiās ēgit.

Danaë gladly accepted this gift, and thanked the king for so great a kindness.

Note. grātiās agere: 'to give thanks'.
